ABOUT US
We’re a real, bricks and mortar store on the border of Surry Hills and Darlinghurst — corner Crown and Campbell Streets.
We’re Electronic Music / Vinyl DJ specialists, and stock a wide range of LPs: Rock, Hip Hop, Bass Music, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Ambient, Funk, Soul and a bunch of Rando Mc Dando stuff.
Our in store range is exactly the same as our online one, except our $10 diggin crates are not catalogued: for those thou must come hither and dig.
Our e-store Click&Collect works a treat - use it wisely to snag that thing that popped up on your ‘scogs wishlist before amnyone else does.
We sell turntables, needles, headphones & accessories. We de-warp records, record vinyl to digital and can fix your Technics 1200/1210. + we can pro clean vinyl and give you free and friendly advice on almost anything vinyl and turntable related (there are no stupid questions; everyone started sometime.)

GETTING HERE
You can find us just south of Oxford Street (Sydney, Australia). We’re open 11am - 5pm and late until 8pm on Thursdays.
There’s plenty of on street parking, including a rock star space right out the front. You may need to go around the block few times, or you can brave a mad dash drop/off pick up in the no standing right out the front (at your own peril, but the couriers seem to get away with it all the time).
We’re surrounded by excellent food and vintage fashion, heels, an alalogue film lab, a french bakery, gelato, lots of queer eyes for straight guys (and gals and all other humans) and more bars and clubs than you can poke a stick at.
The 352 bus from Bondi Junction to Marrickville / Newtown stops very close to us, and any bus that goes up Oxford Street will get you here also.
Museum is our closest train station, but Town Hall and Central are not too far away, but it is an uphill walk to get here!
Online Orders
Steph’s Chilli Dust & Salt
We triple check all stock before we send it out, but we’re also hooman so if it turns out that there’s something amiss with an order we’ve sent, we’ll sort you out one way or the other, please just get in touch.
Very occasionally, a record you’ve bought online with us is a ghost in the machine, in this situation we’ll refund you that and its share of the postage and fill the remaining order; if you’ve qualified for free postage, we’ll honour it.
Captain of the Recordstore ship, Steph, likes it hot and makes his own super-fine chilli dust from Australian grown Habanero chillis.
Pure tasty heat, undistracted by preservatives and suaces. Hot, fresh and not face-off-blowing, this chilli dust is perfect as a condiment or an ingredient.
There’s also a chilli salt PERFECT for pimping fries or rimming margaritas: 10% chilli in a white/charoal salt blend.
We Can De-Warp Vinyl
Operating under the same principle as the old 'two panes of glass in the sun' routine, the DISC FLATTENER evenly heats the platter for two hours and then allows it to cool for another two hours. All the while an even pressure is supplied by the weighted canopy of the device. This ensures an even and constant temperature with no risk of further damage to your beloved vinyl.
Cost = $10 / Disc
Duration = 4 hours.
Turntablist Tools
These scratch records contain specially edited breakbeats, beat loops and custom skipless samples to scratch vinyl with.
We retail a turntablist range you can check out here.
We also wholesale the Cut N Paste label.
Get in touch if you’re a store interested in stocking these records.
Turntables
We stock world-renowned Audio-Technica turntables / record players (as well as headphones). A-T have been around for over 50 years and are so good at what they do they make the mics for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Their decks are no exception to this level of quality. Most people have a lot of questions and we endeavour to provide answers here, but by all means get in touch, come in or call to get the low-down. Butif you are already sold, get ‘em noline here (free shipping within Australia).
By way of brand-quality evidence, A-T make a $7000 moving coil cartridge, so they’re not going to tarnish their name with low quality home-HiFi
Needles/Styli
The stylus is arguably the most important component. It's typically a diamond. On cheap entry level turntables, it is usually not a diamond and is terrible for your vinyl (except our LP60 which sports the AT91 diamond :)
In moving magnet cartridges (the most common) magnetic conductors inside the cartridge surround a magnet and as it moves its magnetic field is distributed between the conductors. This energy flows through copper coil to produce an electrical signal which is sent to the amplifier to be reproduced through the speakers.
We can find almost any replacement needle. Click here for way more info.
Technics 1200/1210 Service
We have two levels of service and repair for the infamous — and ever-lasting — Technics 1200/1210 turntables. For a standard service and repair we have an inhouse tech that can usually do the work within the week.
Should we discover any deeper issues, or, you know, you ripped your tone arm off, we have a guy, nay, we have THE GUY who can rebuild them. He has the technology: little fkn electro wizard that he is.
$185 (or $300 a pair) for the full clean, calibrate, replace leads & lights & fader ... more for additional parts and/or labour - but we’ll let you know about that in advance.
